received a PTEC PTRC Notice

Received a PTEC/PTRC Notice? Don’t Panic — Understand It First

Many business owners receive this Form V notice even when they are already registered in PTEC/PTRC, or when one of the two (PTEC or PTRC) is still not registered. So first thing — don’t worry. This notice is common, and I’ll explain what it means and what the right solution is.

This is a Show Cause Notice (Form V) from the Profession Tax Department under the Maharashtra Profession Tax Act, 1975. It is usually issued when the department sees your GST registration and feels that PTEC/PTRC registration or compliance may be pending.

What you should do (simple steps)

  1. Check your status
    • Do you have PTEC (for proprietor/partners/directors)?
    • Do you have PTRC (if you have employees and salary is paid)?
  1. If already registered
    • You may only need to submit proof + compliance status and close the notice properly.
  1. If not registered (or partial registration)
    • We apply for the missing registration (PTEC/PTRC) and prepare the reply in a clean format.
  1. Keep documents ready (as asked in notice)
    • Balance Sheet & P/L (FY 2017-18 to 2024-25)
    • Basic business details + GST certificate
    • Any existing PTEC/PTRC certificates (if available)
  1. Reply within 7 days
    • Either you can go personally, or we can handle it through an authorised representative.

Important point

GST registration does not automatically mean Profession Tax compliance is complete. These are separate registrations in Maharashtra.

If you received this notice, message “PTEC NOTICE” and we’ll check your case and guide you step-by-step.
